I just have to say that yesterday’s barbeque brisket dinner was one of the best that I’ve had in a long time. Yes, this was my first time to eat at the newly opened Rudy’s Country Store and Barbeque here in Norman ….I had eaten at the one of the Austin locations a few years ago but it sure was nice to see this little bit of Hill Country make it to Norman. Finally some true Texas Barbeque ….sorry Van’s ……you’re certainly a good standby but I’m hooked on Rudy’s for sure. The smoked (over seasoned oak) moist brisket (with a dry rub) was absolutely divine and the new potatoes in drawn butter sauce were cooked to perfection ….all served in that famous quirky Rudy’s way. Piled on white sheet paper and placed in an old Coke, or better yet, a Dr. Pepper bottle tray. Here’s a review that I think captures the spirit of this place quite well.

They even have a cool slogan on one of their T-shirts which says ” I didn’t claw my way to the top of the food chain … To eat vegetables!” …and the best part  about all of this (or worst if you’re looking to limit your fat intake)…..it’s only two miles up the road from my house.
After dinner with RJ last night we were treated to more storms. We have now had thunder at my house on five out of the last six days. Here’s a lightning shot from yesterday evening:

Today’s forecast is for more ….some may be severe again as well. In the least however, I will probably end up with something severe …..like a severe craving for more of that smoked brisket from Rudy’s!
